FAQS

We know that you will have many questions when it comes to seeking financial advice.

To help, we have collated answers to 10 questions we are frequently asked by prospective clients.

  • Q1: What does Independent mean?

A: Not linked with any product provider – we can provide impartial advice – our fee remains the same regardless of which provider is chosen.

  • Q2: How can I check that you are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority?

A: You can check that our company is authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) for the services we advertise by visiting https://register.fca.org.uk/s/ and performing a search using our FCA firm reference number: 915934. Alternatively, you can telephone the FCA on 0800 111 6768.

  • Q3: How much will financial advice cost?

A: We provide clients with full details of our charges as soon as possible (usually in the initial meeting) and always before we commence work on your behalf. Our focus is to ensure that our charges remain fair and competitive. Please remember our initial meeting is always without charge or obligation.

  • Q4: Is it worth paying for advice?

A: The consequences of making an error could far outweigh the costs of financial advice. The important thing to remember is that a good financial adviser will always look to add value to their clients.

  • Q5: How are you paid?

A: We usually work on a fee-basis. This means that we will invoice you personally for our charges. With your agreement, these can often be deducted from your financial product(s).

Please be assured that you will receive a document, before we commence any chargeable work, which sets-out the services you require from us, the specific charges we will make for providing these and your chosen payment method(s).

  • Q6: How do I know that any investments you arrange are legitimate?

A: We are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and comply with their rules on investment suitability.

If you are in doubt about the legitimacy of a potential investment you are considering, we would be happy to discuss it with you. Whilst some investment scams might understandably look convincing to a layperson, they are usually very easy to spot for a trained professional.

  • Q7: I don’t want to take much risk with my money, can you still help?

A: Yes, we invest in line with your risk profile. We have procedures in place to ensure that you do not take on more risk than you are willing and able to take.

  • Q8: Who are the FOS and the FSCS?

Two different organisations. FOS is short for the Financial Ombudsman Service and FSCS is short for the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.

The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS): The Financial Ombudsman Service is available to sort out individual complaints that clients and financial services businesses aren’t able to resolve themselves. To contact the Financial Ombudsman Service please visit www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk

The Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS): we are covered by the FSCS for most aspects of our work. You may be entitled to compensation from the scheme if we cannot meet our, or a financial product provider cannot meet their, obligations. Further information about compensation scheme arrangements is available from the FSCS www.fscs.org.uk/what-we-cover

  • Q9: Where will meetings take place?

A: Our office, your home or other meeting venues by mutual agreement. Meetings can also take place online via video communication platforms.

  • Q10: I have a financial adviser already. Is it straightforward to switch?

A: Yes. Once we have set out how we can help, it is usually as simple as sending letters (drafted by ourselves and signed by you) to each product provider appointing us as your new financial adviser. Please make sure you have any plan/policy numbers to hand as we will need to detail these in the letter(s).
